Liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing excess fat deposits, improving body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhancing your self-image.
Despite good health and a reasonable level of fitness, some people may still have a body with disproportionate contours due to stubborn, localized fat deposits. These areas may be due to family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness.
Liposuction surgery can be used to treat stubborn fat pockets in many parts of the body including the thighs, arms, neck, abdomen, hips, waist, back, inner knee, chest, cheeks, chin, calves, and ankles. Liposuction may be performed alone or performed along with other plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift, breast reduction, or a tummy tuck.
Liposuction surgery is not a treatment for obesity and is not a replacement for regular exercise and good eating habits. People with stubborn areas of fat and who exercise regularly are the best candidates for this procedure.
Liposuction is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. First, sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
Your improved body contour will be apparent when the swelling and fluid retention commonly experienced following liposuction subside. It may take several months for the swelling to fully dissipate after liposuction surgery. As it does, your new contours and enhanced self-image should continue to develop.
The fulfillment you feel from the initial results of liposuction should continue as long as you control your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
With continued practices of healthy diet and fitness, the loss of excess fatty tissue should be permanently maintained. However, significant weight gain can reverse your results, thus altering an otherwise permanent result.

Gynecomastia is a condition of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men. It can be the result of hormonal changes, heredity conditions, disease or the use of certain drugs.
Gynecomastia is characterized by:
- Excess localized fat
- Excess glandular tissue development
- A combination of both excess fat and glandular tissue
- May be present on only one breast or both breasts
Causing emotional discomfort and lowering self confidence, some men may even avoid certain physical activities and intimacy simply to hide their condition.
Breast reduction for men, or gynecomastia surgery, is the surgical correction of over-developed or enlarged breasts in men. It is a highly individualized procedure and you should do it for yourself, not to fulfill someone else’s desires or to try to fit any sort of ideal image.

The incision lines for this surgery are concealed within natural contours, but some may be visible. After surgery, dressings will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage or support garment may be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals. A small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
If you are bothered by the feeling that your breasts are too large, this procedure is a good option – especially if you are physically healthy and of relatively normal weight with stabilized breast development.

Our society places a high value on looking young and fit. Today, men of all ages and all walks of life are requesting plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons. Men’s goals include a more balanced nose, a rejuvenated face, and a trimmer waistline. The procedures used to achieve these goals must take into consideration factors such as skin thickness, beard growth, or body type.
The ideal male body shape is considered to be trim and athletic-looking, with broad shoulders and chest, a flat abdomen, and a narrow hip-thigh area. However, as men age, areas of fat tend to accumulate around the abdomen, the flanks (“love handles”), the breast area (a condition called gynecomastia), and along the chin and neck. Men sometimes seek liposuction to remove these fatty areas that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Liposuction alone can effectively correct these problem areas. Men retain their skin elasticity longer than women do, and the areas of fat beneath the skin tend to be firmer and more vascular than those in women. Because of these and other factors, liposuction in men is usually very effective.
A full abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” may be chosen by men who have hanging abdominal skin (usually the result of massive weight loss), loose abdominal muscles, and/or neglected hernias. It is a major surgical procedure that removes excess fat, tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall, and trims the waistline. The recovery time for such an extensive procedure may take up to 2 weeks after surgery.
A fatty or “jowly” area beneath the chin is also a concern for many men. In younger patients, liposuction alone may be sufficient to correct the problem. Older patients may require a full facelift and necklift, which may include the removal of excess skin and tightening the platysma muscles, which run down each side of the neck.
“Refinishing” treatments for facial skin: Shaving must be postponed for about 3 weeks after a skin-smoothing treatment such as chemical peel or dermabrasion. Because these procedures strip away the surface layers of skin, you can expect your face to remain sensitive, swollen, and bright pink for several weeks after surgery.
Cosmetic procedures such as eyelid surgery, nose surgery, and facial-implant surgery are methods of changing facial features to bring back a youthful appearance. It is also important to let Dr. Monasebian know if you are seeking a more masculine look to your facial features — a chin with better projection, more prominent cheekbones, a stronger nose.

These days, women are not the only ones considering a nip and tuck to maintain or enhance their appearance. Liposuction, laser hair removal and facial plastic surgery are the top cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that men choose to have performed, according to a recent survey of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Men and women want to look as great as they feel. Eating sensibly and exercising regularly won’t remove wrinkles or eliminate stubborn fat around the waistline and chin - and men want to see results for their efforts.
When asked what they would change about their appearance, 45% of men would change their body contour, 25% would change signs of facial aging, 13% would change their nose, 12% would change their chest and 5% would change their legs.
In another survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 2,000 men were surveyed and 72% approved of cosmetic plastic surgery for themselves or others, 18% were undecided and 10% disapproved. If these men were to have cosmetic plastic surgery, 87% would have it for personal reasons, 7% for relationship-related reasons and 4% would choose it for job reasons. Last year, over 1 million men had a cosmetic plastic surgery procedure.

Cold winter weather makes the face particularly susceptible to dry skin. Hands and lips are not the only areas that get dry and chapped. Dr. Monasebian and Park Avenue Plastic Surgery are performing a revolutionary new approach in microdermabrasion… Dermasweep.
This next generation microdermabrasion system eliminates the messy and often times irritating aluminum oxide crystals that most microdermabrasion systems rely on to remove dead skin. Instead, Dermasweep features a closed system that features a variable level vacuum pump that gently lifts the skin surface as the device “sweeps away” the dead skin. This medical-grade system results in a deeper peel and polish of your skin. Dermasweep is also used to individualize treatments to specific skin conditions such as acne, sun-damaged or hyperpigmentation. Early signs of skin aging are also treated using Dermasweep’s unique Epidermal Infusion treatments.
Dermasweep which provides microdermabrasion with dermal infusion is just the latest in Skin Care that Dr. Monasebian and Park Avenue Plastic Surgery provide. We continue to provide laser resurfacing, surgical dermabrasion and chemical peeling. Injectable fillers such as Juvederm and Radiesse are provided as is Botox cosmetic.

Due to the diversity of ethnicities that Dr. Monasebian encounters in his Plastic Surgery practice there is no “one face suits all” solution for patients seeking facial enhancing surgery. Whether a person is seeking to change or enhance their eyes, face, nose or chin each patient must be individualized and there are no set norms. Each ethnic facial feature whether it is Asian, Hispanic, African American, Mediterranean or Caucasian must be individually diagnosed and treated. Each patient’s face is treated individually and with respect to his/her ethnicity. Occasionally, however, Dr. Monasebian encounters a patient wishing to modify an ethnic trait, such as an Asian American wishing to Occidentalize or westernize their eyelid shape. This type of “ethnic altering” surgery is common among Dr. Monasebian’s patients.
During the consultation, Dr. Monasebian will listen to the patient’s concerns and wants. His additional background and training in Maxillofacial Surgery enable him to accurately access the facial norms of different ethnicities and individualize them to each patient.
The nose and eyes are two of the most important facial features that exhibit racial character. “The final result from rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty must be in accord with the patient’s overall features or there will be disharmony,” states Dr. Monasebian. As with all his aesthetic surgeries, Dr. Monasebian customizes the surgical procedure to the individual needs and expectations of the patient. These are discussed thoroughly in length during the pre-operative consultation.
For additional information regarding ethnic cosmetic surgery or any other plastic surgical procedures, please call Park Avenue Plastic Surgery at 212-472-8700 to speak with Dr. Monasebian and schedule an appointment today.
