What exactly is a Facelift?
- Posted on: Feb 7 2018
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck. Visible signs of aging include the following…
Relaxation of the skin of the face and neck which causes sagging and jowls.
Deepening of the nasolabial folds between the nose and corner of the lips.
Loose skin and excess fat of the neck that can appear as a double chin or “turkey neck”.
As we age we lose the youthful contours in the face. This is due to a variety of factors that are both genetic and environmental. Smoking and sun exposure will also lead to signs of facial aging.
During a facelift, Dr. Monasebian will also combine other facial rejuvenation procedures including eyelid lifts or blepharoplasty as well as forehead and brow lifting. Other common surgeries such as buccal fat removal, neck liposuction and chin augmentation will also enhance face-lifting.
Either before or after your surgery, Dr. Monasebian may also recommend non-surgical procedures including resurfacing, fillers or fat transfer. Dr. Monasebian employs the use of lasers, radiofrequency, microneedling, microdermabrasion and chemical peeling in his office for facial resurfacing.
Dr. Monasebian will tell all his patients during his consult that the results can last 10 to 15 years. “I can turn back the aging clock, but I cannot stop it.”
